AVID

Barrington Elementary implements AVID strategies in our campus as follows:

  • AVID Quickwrites 3 times per week. One of them have to be a response to a math, science or social studies lesson.

  • AVID binders in 3rd to 5th grade to help students with organization. The AVID binders are divided by subjects : Science, Math, ELA, SLA, and Data.

  • Data trackers. Students in 2nd to 5th grade are using data trackers to set goals and measure their progress.

  • Teachers have to WICORized lesson plans, this means that in the lesson plan we are expected to highlight with a different color the WICOR strategy that is being implemented, for example if students are reading a story we high light in teal, if they are writing we highlight blue.

  • Collaboration among students is encouraged in every lesson, this is happening with the structured conversations.

  • We also have an AVID communication folder, that includes the calendar with events for the month. This helps as a way to communicate with families and keep them informed of the events happening at school in advance.
